North-South Dialogue on Nanotechnology: Challenges and Opportunities

More than 80 participants from both industrialized and developing countries had gathered in Trieste, Italy, on 10-12 February 2005, to discuss the potential risks and benefits of nanotechnology.

Aim of this forum was to encourage and delineate better strategies for the promotion of nanoscience and nanotechnology in developing and emerging countries. This was the first and, so far, unique event bringing together authorities from both North and South of the world in the field of nanotechnology.

The Expert Group Meeting on Nanotechnology is foreseen as a practical step in assessing emerging technologies for development. Supporting nanotechnology in developing countries will bring benefits in the fields of research, health, environment and economy.

TAINANO's Observation and Comments

The Expert Group Meeting of North-South Dialogue on Nanotechnology overall is a successful and fruitful one.
