China's nanotechnology patent applications rank third in world

Global nanotechnology related patent application cases have grown rapidly in China over recent few years, with the number following the United States and Japan, and ranks the third place in the world.

During the decade before 2001, according to the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology ( MST), China's total applications for nanotechnology patents numbered less than 1,000. But this figure has soared in the past two years, and amounted to 12 percent of the world's total. By this web page creating time, China already has more than 2,400 nanotechnology related patents.

China is one of the few countries in the world that started focusing research on nano-scale materials in the 1990s. Currently, China's research in nano-scale materials and their applications, tunnel microscope analysis and monatomic control, has approached the international advanced level. However, domestic studies in nano-scale electronics and nano-scale biomedicine still lag behind other developed countries, but their catching up velocity is accelerating
